Calling all Zenfone 3 Laser and Zenfone 3 Deluxe 5.5 owners – Must Read

If you own a Zenfone 3 Laser or Zenfone 3 Deluxe 5.5-inch, ensure you are running the latest update. The issue? If you’re not running at least Android 7.1.1 then you will not be able to dial 911.

According to Asus, this occurred due to a software bug. This was reported in Canada which may mean it’s exclusive to Canada, although Asus lists the Zenfone 3 Deluxe 5.5-inch model as part of this alert. That particular Deluxe model is not available in Canada which is the source of our confusion. So if you live in the US, just ensure you’re running at least Android 7.1.1 version.

Navigate to your system settings, About, and check to see if you’re running at least Android 7.1.1 version. If not, then you can navigate in your system settings to “System Update” and press “Check Update” which will initiate the software update/fix.

Zenfone AR (ZS571KL) in Canada – We have details!

Aha, you want to know when it’s going to be available to buy in Canada. If it’s okay, can we still dig that detail up? The actual day of availability is still up in the air, but we know most everything else!

Price is set to be $899 CAD, although some retailers may bump up that price slightly. We’ve seen that in the past, but expect only a slight variance from that price.

In order to meet price points, Asus does need to make adjustments on specs. Generally this means a different amount of storage or RAM in order to get the price at a point where they think the phone will sell. So…

The Canadian variant of the Zenfone AR is going to come with 6GB RAM (not 8GB that other regions have) and it will have 64GB storage (not 128GB that other regions have). That’s the bad news, if you want to even call it that. See, it’s a balancing act. I’m sure Asus could have put the 8GB of RAM in there but the cost would cause public outrage most likely. If that 128GB storage was also included, the same deal. People would be upset at the price.

We are hoping to get even more details which includes the all important pre order or shipping date. I’m also sure a lot of you want to know the LTE bands and whether it’s compatible with Freedom Mobile (Wind Mobile) and their LTE band 66.

So for now, this should give you something to think about. Just purely as a phone, without the Tango and Daydream benefits, the Zenfone AR is quite the beast. The AMOLED display is well worth the price of admission and consider this is 1440P and not just 1080P. We expect the typical retail partners in Canada which include NCIX, Best Buy, Canada Computers, Memory Depot, and others.

China gets Zenfone Pegasus 4A (ZB500TL) release

China is just getting a slightly modified Zenfone 4 Max version, going by the name Zenfone Pegasus 4A (ZB500TL). This is very similar to the Zenfone 4 Max which has already been released/announced in Russia. The build looks almost identical, but there are some substantial differences. They may look the same, but the Zenfone Pegasus 4A is a far more budget orientated phone than the main Zenfone 4 Max model.

The antenna lines are not part of the Zenfone Pegasus 4A but we see them on the Zenfone 4 Max. The processor on the Pegasus 4A (ZB500TL) is a MediaTek whereas the Zenfone 4 Max comes with a Snapdragon processor. The battery size is also larger on the Zenfone 4 Max vs. the Zenfone Pegasus 4A. The Zenfone Pegasus 4A is only 5-inches with a 1280 x 720 resolution vs. the 5.5-inch and 5.2-inch versions of the Zenfone 4 Max. We need to delve a bit more into the specs for comparisons and we will update this article later today.
