Leak suggests Zenfone Pegasus 4A – looks like X00KD

Some new renders just showed up via a leak. This appears to be a new Pegasus phone which is exclusive to China. The specs listed in the leak line-up with the recent TENAA listing of a X00KD. There is nothing to suggest the renders are fake, afterall the faking tends to happen for Apple or Samsung products. A budget smartphone? Not likely a target of faking.

Rumored specs include 5-inch display, 32GB storage, Android 7.0 Nougat, 4100mAh battery, MediaTek MT6737V, 3GB RAM, 144.26 x 71.26 x 9.1mm, 160g, price expected to be 1799 Yuan.

Asus India teases the arrival of the Zenfone AR with tweet

India is an important market for Asus so it shouldn’t be surprising that the country is poised to get their Zenfone AR release. It’s “landing soon” and is “the world’s first 8GB RAM phone”. Certainly the Zenfone AR is jam packed with most every spec and top end hardware available with the exception of the Snapdragon 835. The Zenfone AR packs a special edition of the Snapdragon 821 which stands neck and neck with the newest 835 processor.

In terms of pricing for India, we aren’t quite sure just yet. We expect to see news about an unveil event at which time the price will be announced. Don’t expect cheap, that’s for sure. This is likely at the Zenfone 3 Deluxe Special Edition type level of pricing.

Malaysia getting Zenfone 4 Max (ZC554KL) soon thanks to SIRIM listing

When the governmental standards agencies start seeing products, then a release date isn’t far off. Showing up at the FCC in the US means anywhere from about 4 weeks to 8 weeks before hitting store shelves. Some companies can do FCC and get a release date sooner, but for Asus this is our observation.

Regarding Malaysia and SIRIM, we don’t have as precise an estimate. Certainly the Zenfone 4 Max showing up at SIRIM is a good sign for a July release date. Asia is getting the Zenfone 4 series first and this listing is not surprising.

From what we’ve heard and seen, the Zenfone 4 Max (X00ID) is certainly going to be budget orientated which is no different than the previous generation. What we are hoping though is to see some leaked details about the more premium Zenfone 4 models which up until this point, have been very well kept under lock and key.

What we know about the A006 known as Zenfone V

Things will certainly be ramping up regarding the Zenfone 4 series as we head into late June and early July. Asus executives have publicly pinned the end of July as the release date.

So the model A006 has certainly made various appearances lately. Let’s take a closer look.

First, it appears to be a 5.2-inch device. In that way it does open the possibility as being a 1B type device. the 1A being a 5.5-inch device. Remember the Zenfone 3 main models came in a 5.2-inch and 5.5-inch size. The difference here though is the A006 model number seems to be on an island all by itself so perhaps it’s one-of-a-kind.

The A006 comes with a standard FHD display of 1920 x 1080 resolution. This is a respectable resolution but it’s not so much a top end spec. When you’re at 5.2-inch perhaps a higher resolution is somewhat futile. We were expecting the Zenfone 4 models to go past a 1920 x 1080 resolution but price obviously plays into the decision.

Performance wise, there appears to be a Snapdragon 820 @ 2.1GHz processor along with either 4 or 6 gigabytes of RAM. The benchmark test results can be a bit confusing in this regard. The storage appears set at 32GB. Cameras are good quality 21MP rear and 8MP front. Please keep in mind that the fine details or the specs are likely a bit inaccurate.

There is some evidence to suggest this is the Zenfone V model. It’s pure speculation as the what a “V” model entails. What we can say is that the Zenfone V is going to be mid ranged by the look of it. Could is be “5”? Unlikely as Asus has never gotten into roman numerals. Could “V” be for Verizon? Perhaps but the A006 hasn’t been through the FCC yet so we certainly don’t think it means Verizon. Remember the Zenfone AR is an upcoming Verizon exclusive so they will be marketing that phone over the next couple of months. V for Verizon seems a bit tacky in our opinion although it’s still a possibility.

More details to come!

Taiwan gets official Zenfone AR (ZS571KL) unveiling – Price Revealed

Asus didn’t waste any time here. Right after the official Taiwan event, the Zenfone AR is available immediately. We posted those details here if you’re interested in owning this phone first.

Zenfone AR price in Taiwan (no contract): NT$24,990

Zenfone AR price in Taiwan (with contract): NT$9,990

The Zenfone AR is packed with every top end piece of hardware that you could want. The only minor (see below) quibble might be that it has a Snapdragon 821 vs. the newest Snapdragon 835. However, check out the benchmarks here which show that this Snapdragon 821 is a variant of the processor which Qualcomm optimized for the Project Tango and Daydream features. To put it simply, this is no ordinary Snapdragon 821.

We don’t currently have a translation for the above slide, but FPS indicates frames-per-second and the Zenfone AR is up against the Snapdragon 835 which you can see, barely beats the Asus phone. Look also at the LG G6 which has a different 821 variant which scores quite a lot lower here.

This phone is pretty much the most feature packed Zenfone ever released. Hard to argue against that! It has a 128GB storage, 8GB RAM, and an incredible 2K Super AMOLED display at 2560 x 1440 resolution. The highest resolution Zenfone to date by the way!

More details on other countries getting the Zenfone AR. Again, if you want to shop and possibly buy one out of Taiwan, you can certainly do that. Full details here.
