Relating this news to the ZenFone 7, it’s entirely likely that once ASUS unveils the ZenFone 7, there may be a quick pre order to “buy now” phase. Units will likely be ready to ship if this ROG Phone 3 launch is any indicator. We certainly hope there isn’t a big lag between the ZenFone 7 unveiling and buying opportunities.

Regarding the ROG Phone 3, it’s a big phone, but it has a monster 6,000mAh battery that is going to get you 2 days worth of use before needing to recharge. From every early review, the audio from the stereo speakers is the best that can be found on any mobile phone on the planet. So if you like to watch movies more than gaming, the ROG Phone 3 is going to be an impressive audio experience.

Design wise the ROG Phone 3 is similar to last year which means the accessories mostly transfer from the ROG Phone 2 to the new model phone. That’s a bonus!

With the 5G and large battery, ASUS didn’t include a headphone jack simply because there was not the space inside the phone. However, there is an included dongle/adapter and the included fan accessory has a 3.5mm headphone jack as well.

The display is stellar with a 2340 x 1080 resolution on a 6.59-inch AMOLED panel. It has a refresh rate up to 144 Hz! Everything else is an upgrade from last year as you might expect. Faster everything and cameras have seen a substantial improvement as well.

ZS671KS is ZenFone 7 Pro – ZS670KS is ZenFone 7

This is a humbling moment for us. Not earth shattering bad, but we pride ourselves in getting accurate information on the ZenFone series and having reliable insight. We must swallow our pride and admit our mistake on this one however.

First, with a new filing at the EEC, we can now for the first time see two model numbers listed. These are the ZS670KS and the ZS671KS.

Without having any prior experience with ZenFone products, it would seem logical to assume the ZS670KS is the ZenFone 7 and the ZS671KS is the ZenFone 7 Pro. The higher the number, the better the model and it has always been that way.

We have in the past, suggested the ZS670KS is the ZenFone 7 Pro. Simply put, we were wrong.

It made sense based on the information that was available, but the information itself was not air tight. The “KS” does NOT mean Snapdragon Plus processor like we assumed. What we believe now is that ASUS has simply dropped “KL” which is something they used virtually from the start of their mobile phone business. The “KL” was indicative of Snapdragon processors. It’s because of that history we were thrown off a bit here. ASUS has seemingly moved their mobile phones to using “KS” and seemingly ditched “KL”.

But we move on! What’s most exciting is that there is some clarity and hard proof of the two models. It’s exciting right? It’s one step closer to knowing about the next generation ZenFone models.

We still are perplexed by one source we found previously.

They had phone parts for a ZS670KS and listed it with a Snapdragon Plus. An error didn’t seem plausible to us and frankly still doesn’t. However, the growing mountain of leaked information all points to the ZenFone 7 (ZS670KS) having the Snapdragon 865 and not the Snapdragon 865 Plus. Is our confusion understandable? The parts website listing may simply be wrong or perhaps there is some misinterpretation on our end. The part is referencing a motherboard.

Whatever the case, the show goes on. The party is just getting started so stay close!

Breaking news on ZenFone 7 coming in hours

ASUS has done a stellar job at keeping the ZenFone 7 leaks to an absolute minimum. Things are about to change in a big way and we explain why.

Our claim of breaking news on the ZenFone 7 is coming within hours comes down to one rather important factor—the ROG Phone 3 unveil.

On July 22, 2020 ASUS will take the wraps off the ROG Phone 3. On that lead-up you could say leaks galore and not be far from the truth. There have been no shortage of renders and information about the next generation gaming phone from ASUS.

The principle of not stepping on ones toes makes sense here. It would make no sense from a marketing perspective to be launching and building hype for two different devices at the same time. Said another way, the ROG Phone 3 launch needs to happen before the ZenFone 7 starts to get some love from ASUS.

We are predicting hours, not days for the flood gates to open on the ZenFone 7. Some have speculated that the ZenFone 7 will make an appearance at the ROG Phone 3 event but we highly doubt it for the reason stated above. The ZenFone 7 deserves its own spotlight!

Another factor for why we think ASUS will be going hard on ZenFone 7 news in the minutes and hours following the ROG Phone 3 event is because of competition. There are plenty of competitors set to launch their new devices and ASUS needs to keep pace, and to do that, they need some leaks, renders and information to trickle out. The interest needs to keep pace with the competition so that it makes the purchase decision that much more difficult.

Think about it. If you see that ASUS is coming with their ZenFone 7 will a robust flip camera module, it’s going to make buying a different phone a lot more perplexing. ASUS can, and will stir up the mobile phone industry in hours from now. When that first render hits the web, be assured it’s all everyone will be talking about. The other brands have something to worry about here.

Needless to say, we recommend that you visit us often in the next number of days. It’s going to get hot and steamy regarding ZenFone 7 and ZenFone 7 Pro news. Renders is what we crave just to confirm the flip camera module. That’s the biggie and the feature that has us up at night, tossing and turning.

Source code confirms ZenFone 7 Pro and ZenFone 7

Big news here on a couple fronts. Some folks dug deep into benchmark kernel source code to make a discovery that seems to confirm two ZenFone 7 models. If you weren’t excited yet, it’s now time.

First off, this code indicates two ZenFone 7 models running two different chipsets and two different speeds. When looking at the speeds, one model is running at 2.84GHz which is clearly a Snapdragon 865 and the second model running at a higher speed of 3.09GHz is indicative of the Snapdragon 865 Plus.

Why is this a big deal? Well it does confirm what the big leak from TNNtoday.com said about two models, a ZenFone 7 and ZenFone 7 Pro. So now, one of their two big claims has proven true—and it’s a big deal. With no screenshot or linked source in the TNNtoday.com story this new information about two different ZenFone 7 models makes their story credible.

So if the first half of the TNNtoday.com leak is true, then it bodes well for the other piece of information. In that story, it was said that the ZenFone 7 series will indeed have the flip camera module, albeit with more lenses and sensors. The big card ASUS has left to play is indeed the fact they not only are bringing back the flip camera, but it’s going to be bigger and better than before. No question ASUS has done a phenomenal job at keeping this secret under wraps!

We were already onboard with the idea of the ZenFone 7 Pro based on the certification filings showing a “ZS670KS” model. We knew from the ROG Phone 3 that “KS” is indicative of how ASUS now lists models using the “Plus” version of the Snapdragon processors. It wouldn’t make sense for ASUS to put the Snapdragon 865+ inside their expected main ZenFone 7 model. This left only one real possibility which is having a second, more robust “pro” model this year.

Bravo to ASUS we say. This is a brilliant move on their part especially considering we expect the ZenFone 7 Pro to be sporting an AMOLED display as well. Going with LCD in the ZenFone 6 did in fact cost ASUS some sales. And yes, we most certainly are making an assumption on the display for the ZenFone 7 Pro being AMOLED. How could it not be?

Based on what we know, or at least think we know, ASUS is set here for game changing success in their mobile phone business that for so long, had struggled. The ZenFone 6 was really their time to shine but inventory woes held back what could have been an even greater success.

Instead, they appear poised to build upon their innovations of the ZenFone 6 and go higher with covering all bases so that those wanting a ZenFone 7 with AMOLED and faster processor can in fact buy such a model. It’s an achievement to innovate and create features that no other mobile phone company has managed to do. They shall reap the rewards in 2020.

Bravo ASUS!

Top 5 questions about the ZenFone 7 answered

With very few credible pieces of information to go with, we find this a challenging time. Sure we have a lot of experience covering ASUS product launches, but the ZenFone 7 is truly a mystery and we’re more than half way through the year! It’s curious to us why the ROG Phone 3 is widely leaked with plenty of information available. Unfair treatment we say! Let’s take the rumors and leaks to come up with some theories and answers to the top 5 burning questions on everyone’s mind.

1. Why the deafening silence?

Initially we felt that ASUS was going to slip the ZenFone 7 out without much of an event or build-up. If the early leaked photos in early January were to be believed, then the ZenFone 7 seemed rather  average and just like many other phones. If ASUS was going to drop the flip-camera it made sense to just release the ZenFone 7 with a small announcement and move on from there. This seemed like a plausible explanation considering ASUS has been far more focused on their new ROG Phone 3 release.

It’s only recently where we’ve thought differently about the deafening silence. Perhaps ASUS wanted to keep the ZenFone 7 a complete secret because it has something special that is going to give them a substantial competitive advantage.

Of course we’re talking about whether the ZenFone 7 has a flip-camera module that is even more impressive with more lenses and sensors. It would be a big achievement if true and certainly something worthy of keeping secret for as long as possible. To be honest, ASUS has done an incredible job in keeping the ZenFone 7 leaks practically non-existent.

2. Does the ZenFone 7 series have the flip-camera module?

We felt that ASUS ditched this feature due to the sheer hassle of it. Cost, supply issues and production challenges slowed the ZenFone 6 launch in a big way. We also saw those early leaks (photos) that seemed authentic, leading us to believe no more flip-camera moving forward.

The recent report from a credible website (TNNToday) says indeed, the ZenFone 7 series will have the flip-camera module. Understand that there is no supporting evidence of their claims. No links, no images and no sources listed. However, given that it’s a credible website, it’s doubtful they run with such a story if they don’t have the inside source to back it up. Imagine if they are wrong on this? A lot of people will be upset and their credibility will certainly take a hit considering they were the first and only ones to report this news.

At this stage, have we changed out opinion? There are two reason why we say yes, it’s entirely plausible to have the flip-camera on the ZenFone 7 series.

First, ASUS was quick to stop production of the ZenFone 6. It was incredible to see the product listed as “discontinued” on many retailer websites. We’re talking a long while back too. It’s like ASUS ceased production quicker than ever which struck us as odd because the ZenFone 6 is still in high demand out there but inventory is almost all gone globally.

It’s possible that ASUS has put their efforts into ZenFone 7 production to ensure adequate supply of materials this time around. It might explain the puzzling end of production on their most popular phone ever. It’s well documented that ASUS had major supply issues that slowed down their ZenFone 6 production, so stockpiling for the ZenFone 7 with a robust flip-camera with more lenses, seems critically important.

3. Is there really a ZenFone 7 and ZenFone 7 Pro?

We know previously that ASUS executives were adamant about having one model, per year. When a recent story suggested there would be two models, we were, and still are, not convinced. If ASUS executives were so impressed with the ZenFone 6 sales they changed their strategy, we can buy into that theory as well.

What we do know is that the ZS670KS has the Snapdragon 865+ processor. However, this doesn’t automatically mean this is the “pro” model. It’s entirely possible that the ZenFone 7 simply comes with the Snapdragon 865+ and that’s that. A couple days ago we were convinced the “KS”, indicative of the “Plus” version of the Snapdragon processor meant ZenFone 7 Pro was a certainty. Now? Not so much.

The news report suggested the ZenFone 7 would be priced more cheaply than the ROG Phone 3. If that is true, then a Snapdragon 865+ doesn’t seem likely for the non-pro version. We could see a scenario with an LCD display on the ZenFone 7 and AMOLED on a ZenFone 7 Pro which puts the pro model likely at the same price point as the ROG Phone 3.

If the ZenFone 7 has an LCD and Snapdragon 865+ then we don’t see it being much cheaper than the ROG Phone 3. Is that what ASUS wants? In theory if ASUS did keep an LCD display alongside the 865+ processor they could keep the price in-line with what the leak suggests.

If you look at the information that’s out there and look at the combinations and possibilities it does seem possible that there is indeed a ZenFone 7 Pro model.

4. When will the ZenFone 7 be released?

Typically it’s fall by the time North America gets their crack at the new ZenFone releases. First up would likely be Europe (late August) and North America hopefully into September at the latest.

How we see this playing out, is ASUS will not likely speak of the ZenFone 7 prior to the ROG Phone 3 event scheduled for July 22.

Will ASUS want to milk the lead up to a ZenFone 7 launch? Yes, they like to do that and is typical of their product launches. This means about a month after the ROG Phone 3 event we would expect an official ZenFone 7 unveiling. So it could be August 19th or August 26th if we had to make a guess.

Pre-orders will likely start on the unveil day, so it’s possible by late August, Europe will have ZenFone 7 pre-orders. ASUS will pick a region a focus their inventory and efforts their first. History tells us that Europe (Italy) is a most likely region although all bets are off considering the pandemic is still an issue.

Keep in mind that because of the pandemic the release dates have been pushed back substantially. Our experience with past ZenFone releases may not help this time around. It would be safe to say that ASUS doesn’t want to come up to any Apple related product releases so pre-orders should be well under way by the time we get to early September.

5. How much with the ZenFone 7 cost?

It’s going to be more expensive than the ZenFone 6 thanks to the 5G capabilities. ASUS already said previously that having 5G is going to increase their price point. If you believe there will be a “pro” model that might feature AMOLED, then you might be right up there with Apple and Samsung prices. If there is a base model ZenFone 7 with LCD and Snapdragon 865 then it likely will be just slightly more expensive that the ZenFone 6 launch price last year. Forget about cheap ASUS phones at this point. That isn’t their focus and if there is a flip-camera onboard, then you’re paying a premium for it.
